Tom Dixon continues to grow his eponymous brand offering with new additions to the hugely popular Super Texture Collection. Expanding on the brand’s exploration on the construct of cloth, Super Texture looks further into weave, the knits and the knots and brings more color and extra texture to the Soft and Boucle ranges. Refreshing print, embroidery, hand tufting and looping of wool, the collection utilises young emerging talent to produce new ranges: Abstract, Paint and Geo.
Using techniques usually reserved for rug and carpet industries Tom Dixon has produced a pair of pillows under the name Abstract. Hand-tufted in Varansi by exceptionally skilled craftspeople in Northern India, the pillows are thick, woolly and harder wearing than the average pilllows. Inspired by Hippy Wall hangings of the seventies, the pillows display a variety of textures and blocks of saturated colors. Details of a cityscape watercolor from textile artist Josephine Ortega were blown up in scale and separated on graph paper to create a grid technique reminiscent of tapestries, but supersized for this project.
Focusing not only on the materials but the way in which designs are crafted, Tom Dixon’s latest textile collection uses loops, tufts and the variety of pile heights to accentuate the hand-crafted nature of these pillows, which would be impossible to create by machine. The Abstract pillows are made from 100% New Zealand wool, backed with natural linen and generously filled with Danish duck feathers outstanding materiality and a human touch.
The Paint range of pillows feature subtle painterly prints of abstracted urban landscapes rendered onto super soft canvas. Upcoming British talent Josephine Ortega was commissioned by Tom Dixon to create a set of abstracted architectural watercolors based on scenes of British urbanism. Pigment of pinks and indigo were then ink jet printed onto a textured canvas of off-white linen to form landscapes that can be mixed and matched across the range. Woven from natural linen mixed with lightweight viscose for a soft and natural feel, Paint cushions have all been digitally printed, sewn, stuffed and finished in Britain.
Geo pillows have been inspired, as the name suggests, by the natural geologies of rock formations and layered sediment. Embroidered graphic illustrations form expressive patterns across two pillows and a double-sided throw. Celebrating the decorative qualities of natural phenomenon in bold embroidered strokes, Geo is the no-fuss monochromatic that packs a graphic punch and looks great combined with Paint or Abstract. The Geo pillows are embroidered by hand and machine on a base of natural linen and cotton mix, then filled with Danish duck feathers resulting in a lightweight collection with superior comfort.
The existing Soft range has two new colors added, Wine & Khaki. Fashioned from Dutch woven fabric, the pillows are composed of South-African Angora goat hair historically said to be as valuable as gold itself. Combined with European craftsmanship and a generous filling of Danish duck feathers the Soft range offers superior pile height, durability, and the ultimate indulgence in comfort and texture.
New colors of Khaki and Electric Blue are the latest to be added to the existing Boucle color palette. These tactile pieces are uncompromising in quality, made from spun and hand-woven yarn, in the exotic remote mountainous region of Rajasthan with wool sourced from New Zealand.
Create your own stylised look by combining designs from each of the Super Texture Collections by Tom Dixon, the perfect way to update your home this season.
