Project name: Cobham Family Home
Floor Area: 2400sqft
Project time taken: 10 months
Completion of Project: May 2016
Award winning Halo Design Interiors were brought in to extend, reconfigure and refurbish the internal spaces of this 1980’s detached family home on a private Surrey Estate for its owners, who are friends of another Halo client who had previously introduced them to each other. The client was keen to generally update their family home, and open up the back of the house to the garden and give a sense of openness and light to the main room that they spend most of their time in as a family.
What was the creation / planning process?
The main thought and focus was to open up the kitchen by removing two walls and creating a large eat-in and entertaining kitchen that can be enjoyed and used every day as well as for dinner parties. The rest of the property had large rooms which had to be furnished size appropriately and to scale, so we designed bespoke pieces where we needed to fill space and give each room a sense of purpose. My client prefers a calm bordering neutral palette, so we were very careful where and how we introduced colour and warmth.
How did the project go?
The project went well. It always helps and speeds things up when the clients are not living in the property during refurbishment. We visited the site as the renovation progressed and kept in regular contact with the contractor, ironing out queries as they arose, ensuring that things ran smoothly.
What was your favourite room or part of the project and why?
My favourite room is the drawing room and the lobby leading off it. The client wanted the design based on a particular artwork, which we presented to her; but we also presented another design alongside it, based on a completely different colour scheme and artwork which we felt would work better in the overall project, and the client decided to go with that. The room is based on a colour scheme of deep blues, freshened with off whites and touches of soft gold.
Were there any issues or problems you encountered during the project?
Once the two walls were removed to open up the kitchen into the living and dining space the refurbishment was straight forward. The owners who had moved out of London to this property feel so lucky to have this amount of space and privacy all interior designed to their own brief and specification.
