Soho House is renowned across the globe as one of the chicest private members clubs, with an enviable clientèle and huge celebrity following. Last year they launched Soho Farmhouse, and now have a total of 18 Houses globally. The LuxPad takes a closer look at one of their latest, and the first to open in Spain, Soho House Barcelona below…
Set in a striking 18th century building in the historic Duke of Medinaceli Square, Soho House Barcelona overlooks the beautiful Port Vell marina. Featuring 57 bedrooms, club spaces, a roof terrace, Cowshed spa, a gym and two pools, it’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy all that the city of Barcelona has to offer.
The striking interior has been inspired by classic Catalan design; spearheaded by Nick Jones, the in-house design team managing director Vicky Charles, and European design director James Waterworth. Gothic architecture influences can be seen throughout the House, and double-height, vaulted ceilings create the perfect atmosphere.
Warm Mediterranean colours and traditional Spanish patterned textiles give the bedrooms a modern but rustic look. Each one features a luxurious rainforest shower and Cowshed products. Local tiles and vintage bronze fittings come together to create bathrooms with a light and classically simple feel. Throughout the house a mix of mid-century European furniture can be found, with local antiques and custom-made designs from the Soho House team.
A quick 25 minute drive from Barcelona airport, Spain’s Soho House has a host of features to cater for guests every whim; a collection of restaurants, a fully equipped Cowshed Active gym with House Ride spinning classes and a yoga studio, as well as a 36-seat screening room. Guests staying in the bedrooms may also use the private members’ spaces. Soho House Barcelona also houses a Cecconi’s restaurant and a Cowshed Relax spa with an indoor pool – both of which are open to the general public.
Cecconi’s restaurant, originating in Mayfair, London, is open seven days a week and can seat 120 guests. Serving a classic Italian menu, it caters for breakfast, lunch and dinner from Monday to Sunday, as well as a Sunday Feast brunch. There is also a private dining space with lounge and bar.
Up on the 5th floor, The Club Floor, members can eat, drink, meet, socialise and relax. Open 24 hours a day it features a lounge area and bar with seating. A menu inspired by the Mediterranean can be enjoyed with locally sourced ingredients, across breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Cabin Club is a dedicated space for member events, with the beautiful view looking out across the Port Vell mairna.
With views to the sea and the city, the rooftop is one of the best spaces of the House and features a pool with beds, a bar and a lounge seating area where food is served from breakfast through to dinner. Guests can also enjoy the 36-seat screening room, which features velvet upholstered armchairs and footstools, and screens pre-released and independent movies every day for members.
The Cowshed Relax spa is located on the lower lobby and features a design based on a traditional Spanish pharmacy, with four treatment rooms, four mani-pedi stations, and an indoor pool. Facilities at the Cowshed Active gym include a workout studio, House Ride classes, a yoga studio, a steam room, laundry facilities, and a House Press juice bar, and is open to members and hotel guests.
Soho House Barcelona also features The Green Room, a speakeasy located on the lower lobby, open from Thursday to Sunday from 10pm through to 3am, which can be used for parties and cocktails.
