Moored on the banks of the river Seine in Paris lies a new floating hotel concept which is delighting Parisians and visitors alike. OFF Seine is the very first hotel and bar on the water in Paris and is a choice destination for those looking for an unusual experience in the world’s most romantic city. On board the unique floating craft are 58 rooms, four of which are suites along with a cocktail bar, plunge pool, marina and 400m2 summer terrace making the hotel a tourist attractions of its own and one of the chicest addresses to stay at in Paris.
Situated in the city’s ‘21st arrondissment’, it is at the foot of the Gare d’Austerlitz station between Charles de Gaulle Bridge and the Austerlitz viaduct and just a short walk from the city’s new fashion and design hub Cité de la mode et du design and the Notre Dame cathedral. An up and coming district, the area has undergone rapid transformations over the last few years and is now one of Paris’ sought-after neighbourhoods which blends modernity and history at every turn.
Rooms are available with both rive gauche (left bank) or rive droite (right bank) views which each offer an entirely different experience of the city. The left bank rooms offer an atypical view of the Seine and the historic Gare d’Austerlitz station, whilst the right bank views show Seine life at its finest with the gentle toing and froing of barges from dawn until dusk along the river. The suites are even more striking, with the two Horizon suites boasting a new perspective of the city due to double exposure windows and the two Designer Suites created by Maurizio Galante and Tal Lancman are in chic monochromatic hues. The Sunset suite is a bold orange hued haven which gives the effect of the sun going down on the Seine, whereas the silver suite is adorned with sparkling silver touches and finished with bursts of yellow.
The OFF cocktail bar opens for sundowners at 5pm and offers a menu of à la carte signature house cocktails and bistronomic bar food to enjoy on clear nights looking over the city. The hotel also features an OFF quayside terrace for finer days and from September onwards guests will be able embark on three boat trips along the river departing from the OFF marina which focus on romantic, festive or cultural tours.
OFF Seine has been designed by Gérard Ronzatti from Seine Design and is adorned with discreet contours which embrace the river fondly known as Paris’ spinal cord. The slanting zinc roofs reach skywards whilst the central glass ceiling allows natural light into the core of the vessel reflecting the river’s light and transforming each space depending on the time of day. The structure has been designed to sit harmoniously amongst its surroundings and every attention to detail has been provided to make the urban river experience as authentic as possible. The hulls feature subtle articulation to create a fluid effect similar to the rocking of the water and the craft is ten metres from the shore and accessed via walkways to give guest the feel of stepping onto the own private island.
The chance to discover something entirely new in one of the world’s most historic city’s, the OFF Seine offers something unusual in every way from location and architecture to design and entertainment. More information on the unusual retreat can be found on the OFF Seine website.
