NYCXDESIGN, held May 3rd – 24th 2017, is New York’s official citywide celebration of design and brings together all disciplines of design, commerce, education and entertainment. Last year it featured over 500 events spanning all 5 boroughs of New York and this year it is expected to draw tens of thousands of design professionals and enthusiasts to the city. Offering a full, varied program of exhibitions, trade shows, talks and open studios, The LuxPad explores this year’s must-see events…
Design Pavilion and Market
Building on the success of its 2016 debut, Design Pavilion has announced its two 2017 locations in celebration of NYCXDESIGN. Set in Times Square, Design Pavilion will serve as a public center, with a curated set of interactive displays bringing design and innovation directly to locals and visitors alike. The Lower East Side downtown location set in the Sara D. Roosevelt Park will create a showcase for innovation and interactive exhibits with a strong industry focus, and will include daily presentations and programming.
Second Annual NYCXDESIGN Awards
Hosted by Interior Design magazine and ICFF, the second annual awards is slated to take place at The Museum of Modern Art and will feature a broad range of categories across most design disciplines represented in NYCXDESIGN.
Collective Design Fair
Through its curated selection of compelling galleries and designers, process-based installations and thoughtful educational programming, The Collective Design Fair encourages discovery among design professionals and the public alike. Showcasing a unique mix of masterworks of the 20th and 21st centuries alongside modern design thinking, it will be held between May 3rd – 7th at Skylight Clarkson Square.
International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF)
The ICFF has doubled in size since 2014 and for the first time, this year’s fair is slated to take place at the Jacob K. Javits Center. An 800-exhibitor fair, it introduces major international contingents and showcases a range of handmade objects, furniture and lighting.
Midnight Moment at Times Square
New for 2017, NYCXDESIGN will be integrated into Midnight Moment, the world’s largest, longest-running digital art exhibition that is synchronized on electronic billboards throughout Times Square nightly from 11:57 to midnight.
With multiple prestigious museums such as the MoMA and the Museum of Arts and Design participating in this year’s event, as well as NYC’s top design schools coordinating efforts to spotlight their end-of-year gallery shows throughout the boroughs, NYCXDESIGN is set to be the biggest celebration of global design yet.
