Renowned the world over for their instantly recognizable prints, leading Italian design house Missoni Home release just one homeware collection a year making this launch one of the most hotly anticipated announcements in the interior design calendar. Launched each year at Maison & Objet in Paris, one of the world’s largest design tradeshows, the Missoni Home 2018 Collection has been unveiled today on the first day of the show. The LuxPad takes a closer look at this year’s colorful designs…
Each new collection is a fresh take on some of Missoni Home’s most iconic designs combined with brand new elements to infuse the range with unique designs that still sit beautifully alongside the brand’s existing items. The Missoni Home 2018 Collection contains four distinctive designs, each with their own additional stories to create a fully encompassing look for any space in the home, from the bedroom to the garden. The key themes for this year are the brand’s classic florals with a new leading flower on the scene and animals, with butterflies featuring prominently throughout.
Made up of the Poppies Day, Poppies Night and Poppies FR stories, the Poppies design is a new take on Missoni Home’s classic floral patterns and this much-loved flower has been reimagined in bold multicolors. Poppies FR is a contrast of multicolored poppies and butterflies on a background of monochrome swaying stems across cushions and modular furniture. Poppies Night accentuates the motif with more detailed florals and a deeper contrast with the black and white background. For Poppies Night the wild poppies are brought to the bed and the complementing toweling range exhibits matching black and deep multicolored waves and zigzags. Poppies Day offers a lighter poppy design with the same colorful floral motif and swaying stems on an ivory velvet background.
The Horoscope range is the most unique of the Missoni Home 2018 Collection designs and has been inspired by a set of boards purchased by Ottavio Missoni in the ‘80s featuring the Chinese horoscope designs, with the unmistakable touch of the artist Piero Zuffi. The anamorphic designs are depicted as mythological masks framed as paintings on fabric. The abstract characters of the ox, dog, horse, goat, dragon, rooster, rabbit, pig, monkey, snake, tiger and rat are shown amongst delicate ideograms made with geometric precision in bas-relief. The artworks’ scenographic energy has been beautifully transformed to create key pieces for the home in silks, satins, velvets and embroideries to form delicate toppers for modular furniture and dining chairs with animated backrests.
The Vanessa collection brings the butterfly motif to the forefront with Vanessa Winter, Vanessa Summer and Vanessa Outdoor designs. Vanessa Summer includes all-over butterfly prints in summery multicolors on warm ivory, with complementing zigzag patterns in matching hues. Vanessa Winter offers a seasonal update for the home with a subtler color palette and highly textured, soft fabrics. Named after a species of butterfly, Vanessa is a beautifully fluid design depicting the butterflies in flight and Vanessa Outdoors is the brightest in the range with even more vibrantly colored butterflies on a background of pale sky blue.
Flame is reminiscent of classic Missoni Home patterns with the signature irregular stripes seen throughout. Split into summer and winter shades, Flame is a sophisticated look still synonymous with Missoni Home’s signature style and is a fabulous design used alone or layered with other more detailed prints from the brand. Flame Summer combines classic monochrome with pops of blue and orange, whilst Flame Winter exhibits a warming palette of brown, blue and white.
