Project name: Belgravia Apartment
Floor Area: 2000sq ft.
Project time taken: 6 Months
Completion of Project: 2012
The brief was to create a chic Belgravia apartment that would be a comfortable haven by day and an entertaining, enjoyable space by night. The design concept for this property contrasts light reflecting materials with dark walls and plush textures to create a dramatic, yet elegant city apartment.
What was the creation / planning process?
The creation process began with an initial brief from the client. They were happy for the team and me to have full creative control during each stage of the project. We were able to look at the apartment and design it in a way that is functional for our client’s bustling London life.
With this in mind, I wanted to create a calming and welcoming home that could be an escape from the City. One of the most important principles in this design is that we use a lot of contrasting colours and natural material such as wood, glass, velvets and linens.
How did the project go?
The project went seamlessly well. We introduced metallic framed side tables, glass coffee tables, and large mirrors to reflect light. Many of the wall treatments and soft furnishings were made from velvets and linens to complete an innate sense of quality and a richness. The overall design is a practical yet elegant apartment mindful of its busy surrounds.
What was your favourite room or part of the project and why?
Personally, I love the snug– it makes such a dramatic statement and sets the tone for the rest of the apartment. You really get a sense of the theme “light and dark” here.
Were there any issues or problems you encountered during the project?
With any project, we are very much reliant on suppliers and contractors working towards a specific deadline. Luckily, we have a team of skilled artisans who were able to effectively work with us to complete the project on time and within budget.
