Inspired by a deep rooted connection to the cashmere of her home country Mongolia, Oyuna Tserendorj created the lifestyle brand OYUNA. Focusing on a design-led approach, they create home accessories and womenswear in the finest quality cashmere with specialized dying techniques to ensure the most luxurious result.
Oyuna left her native Mongolia to study in Hungary and after travelling extensively she settled in London. It was here that she founded OYUNA with her partner David Bernasconi in 2002. A complete labor of love, it began as a small capsule collection of meticulously sourced throws and has now grown into arguably the most diverse and expansive cashmere offering in the world. Stocked in prestigious stores across the globe, leading interior design practices from Philippe Stack to Holly Hunt are also prominent clients.
In 2009 they launched OYUNA Womenswear, which offered new scope for the brand’s vision and ambition. Working almost exclusively with the finest quality cashmere and cashmere blends, the womenswear line has allowed Tserendorj to stretch the definition of mere ‘knitwear’. Each season the latest ready-to-wear collection is debuted during Paris Fashion Week alongside the fashion elite.
Tserendorj has collaborated with some of the brightest talents from across the design world in a continuous effort to challenge the limits of cashmere. Wallpaper* Magazine named The Soft // Edge exhibition at London Design Festival amongst its Top 20 of the entire week, and many of her acclaimed collaborations and installations are regular fixtures at prestigious design festivals across the world.
Inspired by the diverse landscape she has called home over the years, Tserendorj’s designs feature influences from the steppes of Mongolia to the forward-thinking design hub of London. Each piece from the collection brings together the rich story and creativity of the brand, combining aesthetic tensions with an unmistakable edge to some of the softest & most luxurious fabrics in the world.
OYUNA has a special relationship with Mongolian Cashmere, one of the finest fibers in the world. Originating hundreds of years ago, it has served as an ultra-soft form of defence against some of the world’s most inhospitable terrains. Almost every fiber of OYUNA’s cashmere is sourced form Mongolia (with the remainder carefully sourced from Italy and Scotland). The rich heritage of being used by horseback warriors to hardy shepherds alike to wrap up in, this now treasured fabric was once far from a signifier of luxury but more of necessity, offering essential respite from the country’s wildly varying landscapes. Tserendorj brings this historical fabric into an entirely new context with her designs whilst never compromising the rich heritage of her homeland.
Each spring, native Mongolian cashmere goats are combed in a tradition that stretches back through centuries of nomadic living. Every OYUNA collection combines state of-the-art machine-knitting and lovingly hand-finished detailing to bring the essence of the cashmere to life. Swiss dyes are then used to color the cashmere fiber before spinning the yarn. This creates bold colors that are far more vibrant and long-lasting than when only the yarns or finished items are dyed.
Once the cashmere is received OYUNA create their products in the same year that the fiber has been combed and spun. Achieved without taking shortcuts in the production process, they ensure that the essence and quality of the distinctively Mongolian cashmere is retained in the finished product.
Experience the feel of luxury with the Oyuna Cashmere range from throws to dressing gowns available in range of colors to suit every style.
