Known for its out of this world surfing opportunities, Bondi Beach is an Australian institution and one of the most frequented stops for holidaymakers when travelling to New South Wales. A suburb of Sydney, the beach is a national treasure legendary for its laid-back lifestyle which is equal parts Bohemia and cutting-edge-cool. It has always held a magnetic draw, however until recently, the area has fallen short in terms of quality hotel offerings. QT Bondi has single-handedly changed this reputation with the opening of the area’s very first luxury boutique hotel.
One of the country’s most dynamic and well-loved hotel brands, QT was launched in 2011 with the opening of QT Gold Coast which left a firm stamp on the Australian tourism industry. Just five years later the brand now has QT Port Douglas, QT Sydney, QT Falls Creek and QT Canberra under their belts and along with QT Bondi, QT Melbourne and QT Wellington (the brand’s first international property) will be opening later on in the year. The Bondi branch very much embraces QT’s distinctive sense of quirk, fun and unique design philosophy and also utilises new technology, inimitable art and state of the art design to create a look and feel which is still true to the Bondi ethos.
The hotel’s interior has been imagined by celebrated hotel designer Nic Graham and Associates, whilst Australian-born, London-based artist Shaun Gladwell took on the task of the artwork for the new project. Well known for his works using video and new media, Gladwell delivered a dynamic punch to the hotel lobby with his captivating installations. Amanda Love, QT Hotel’s & Resort’s Art Curator has commented on the artwork:
‘Shaun Gladwell draws extensively on the intense physical energy of the local context, blending kinetic movement with the landscape to evoke a brooding almost calming and still sense of romance. This provides a fascinating juxtaposition against the almost extreme sport experience to be enjoyed, providing a thoughtfully measured perspective that truly connects with the Bondi landscape.’
Offering a fresh palette of optic white set against pops of gelato pastels and subtle timber details, QT Bondi’s interior has a playful beachside edge whilst maintaining a discerning sense of style. Nic Graham and Associates were able to perfectly encapsulate the unique look and spirited vibe of the beach suburb throughout the communal areas and the hotel’s 69 individually styled guest rooms. QT Stylist Anna Roberts was the driving force behind the guest room styling and each room contains a kitchenette, bespoke QT Gel Beds, en suites with walk in showers, designer bath tubs and double vanities and the signature quirky QT mini bar with a host of treats to be enjoyed during the stay.
Designed to be a luxurious home away from home the hotel’s guest rooms also include Bondi inspired art work and exceptional decor to match the vibrant communal areas. The new hotel which opened in February this year, forms part of the eagerly anticipated Pacific Bondi development which encompasses residential apartments, numerous retails units and restaurant offerings with many of the latter on the beach facing façade Campbell Parade. With the abundance of sporting activities, food to enjoy and shopping destinations on the hotel’s doorstep, it was part of the new project’s strategy to not include any in-house food or drink offerings of its own to allow guest to fully immerse themselves in the unique community of the area.
The perfect spot to soak up the sun, sea and surf of one of the world’s most renowned holiday destination, QT Bondi is transforming the look yet enforcing the ethos of the ever popular tourist spot and more information can be found on the QT website.
