Morris & Co
A testament to traditional British art and design, William Morris founded Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co in 1861. Regarded as the greatest designer and one of the most renowned figures in the arts and crafts movement, William Morris and his newly founded decorating practice was seen as highly controversial due to their renouncing of unnecessary mechanical intervention. Staying true to traditional artistic practices such as block printing to create their designs, they specialised in beautiful hand-crafted products and worked under the ethos of ‘affordable art for all’.
Though struggling through two World Wars and changing from the original management to just Morris & Co at the turn of the 20th century it was bought out by Arthur Sanderson & Sons in 1940. Due to Morris’ artistry, energy & vision since the inception of the company, Morris & Co remains a thriving fabric, wallpaper and home furnishing brand to this day. The Morris & Co archive is unique and unrivalled and provides a constant inspiration for the current design team. Including samples of each wallpaper ever produced along with hand written notes, the archive forms the base for new designs which capture the essence and beauty of the Morris style.
