Sue Pryke’s background is firmly rooted in the crafts. She started her journey into ceramics at a small pottery in Lincolnshire where she learnt the skills of production throwing. Sue found the repetitive nature of this process satisfying and it sparked an interest in volume production.
After Graduation, she secured a job at Wedgwood as a shape designer. Guided by the design team, she soon understood the breadth of ceramic from, from how a plate should sit to how a spout should pour. The Wedgwood brand is steeped in history and has such a rich heritage from which Sue would draw upon daily.
Still using the skills she learnt at Wedgwood, Sue works directly with materials by making the initial prototypes and adapting the forms as they are being made. She takes inspiration from everyday life; from material qualities, textures and the interactions we have with objects.
Sue Pryke collaborates with small factories and studios in England to produce her exquisite collection of high quality, handmade tableware. Each piece is completely unique; the wooden bowls differ depending on the tree grain and the terracotta and bone china pieces are slip cast from a mould and feature tiny nuances which add to their charm.
