Mumo is an ethical & stylish homeware brand, sourcing ethical fabrics and artisan techniques from less developed parts of the world. Mumo's aim is to create home ware products that are stylish and desirable as well as being ethically responsible
Initially founder Kirsten Samuel started a fashion label, selling fashion from Rio de Janeiro in London. Kirsten worked with the designers in Rio to try and make the industry more ethical, the company's aim has always been to be ethically conscious whilst educating everyone involved in the process.
Eventually the company grew into Mumo, and turned to interior design and home ware to step away from the fickle world of fashion. They wanted to have time to concentrate on the development of an ethical supply chain, but remain focused on design first and foremost.
A design competition was run in the summer of 2010 in association with TED at Chelsea College of Art and other top design colleges in the UK to select the best young talent to work in collaboration with Mumo on the design of their collection. Judged by interior specialists including Wallpaper Magazine, WGSN, Heal's and Chelsea College of Art two finalities were selected from over 50 candidates and they helped to create Mumo's unique collection.
Mumo have a holistic approach to sourcing which means their fabrics and products are both socially and environmentally responsible. They strive to deliver stylish and chic home ware products that improve the lives of the communities they work with.
Mumo has worked with various European designers to help introduce them to luxurious but ethical fabrics. Past clients and projects include; Vivienne Westwood, Allegra Hicks, Bora Aksu, John Rocha and Aimee McWilliams.
