Celebrated designer Bella Freud is one of the leading names in the British fashion industry and is most renowned for her signature jumpers emblazoned with Je t’aime Jane, Ginsberg is God and 1970. Launching her own label in 1990, Bella Freud won Most Innovative Designer at the London Fashion Awards just a year later and as an alternative to the classic fashion show she produced a Super 8 short film titled ‘Day at the Races’ showcasing her designs.
A refreshingly unique designer in the British fashion world, she also launched a fashion film collaboration with John Malkovich where she co-wrote and produced three short films: Strap Hanging, Lady Behave and Hideous Man. Bella Freud has worked with some of the biggest British fashion brands over the years. She was tasked with rejuvenating Jaeger’s image to bring British dressing to a younger audience from 2002 to 2003 and she was also appointed head of womenswear for the relaunch of Biba in between 2004 to 2006.
The designer has designed capsule collections for many other big names including Barbour and Miss Selfridge and in 2012, she launched her own scented candle range inspired by her signature jumper motifs and more recently a homeware collection has been released to bring celebrated Bella Freud designs to the home.
