How to Introduce Fruit Pastel Colors into Your Home
Spring has almost sprung which means it’s the perfect excuse to brighten up your home. No longer solely associated with nurseries, pastel colours create light, space and you can make them work in almost any scheme. It only takes a quick scroll through Pinterest or Instagram to see that dusty pinks, powder blues and mellow yellows are taking over. And our sweet tooth couldn’t be happier.
Whether you’re a minimalist at heart looking to add some soothing shades, crazy for colour or want brighten up a dark corner, pastel colours can work for you. And we’ve got the know-how to help you bring this candy-sweet spectrum into your home.
A Simple Start
If you’re looking to add a hint of sorbet, it’s important to bear in mind how you’ll bring pastel colours into your current scheme. Dusky pinks and frosted blues are ideal candidates for pairing with everyone’s favourite neutral grey, whilst cool mint and sherbet lemon will pop against monochrome palettes.
It’s also important to avoid the saccharine nursery look in grown-up spaces. Keep things sophisticated with clean lines and neutral backdrops. Ease yourself in with your favourite shade and layer with complementing tones. If you’re feeling braver, mixing pops of pastels screams confidence and will brighten any neutral room with personality.
Don't Make A Fuss
Considerate materials are key to a grown-up look. Avoid frills, lace and fussy fabrics at all costs. Think concrete, marble, metallics or even timber to add a rough edge to your sorbet shades. Your pastels will then be a playful finishing touch without edging into pick’n’mix territory.
These sugary-sweet shades are also perfect for popping against soft shapes and geo graphics, so if you’re looking to add a pop of colour into your minimalist masterpiece, pastels are for you.
Don't Be Afraid Of Clashing
As previously mentioned, mixing pastel colours is a confident move. And it’s not something you should shy away from. So if you’re passionate about pastels and colour in general, let go of your inhibitions. Pop your purple next to acid yellow and pair your peach with sage green and evenly distribute these shades throughout your home. It’ll add instant personality and instant brightness.
What's Your Accent?
There’s no denying that pastels make the perfect accent to almost any scheme. So pick a shade and get busy! Lots of pastel colours complement each other well too, so don’t feel like you have to stick to one shade. Pair your pale olive with millennial pink or pop a muted lilac next to faded yellow. Try adding a few deeper shades into the mix too, it’ll add a gloriously grown-up finish to any setting.
Show Off Your Favorite Color
If you’ve got a favourite colour that you can’t get out of your head, embrace it. Pastel colours work wonderfully when paired with deeper shades so experiment with different depths and layer with complementing accents. Pink and green should always be seen.
Don't Forget the Finishing Touches
Some people see decorative accessories as just another item to dust but when it comes to introducing new colours into a room, they’re just the right thing. So start filling those shelves, cosy up your sofa and decorate your coffee table with some accessories. You’ll be surprised what a few pops of colour here, there and everywhere can do for an interior.
