What is Bridgerton?

If you haven’t heard of it yet, Bridgerton is the Netflix sensation that took the world by storm. Inspired by Julia Quinn’s bestselling novels, the storyline follows the complex, romantic relationships during Regency London’s competitive social season.

Set in the early 19th century, every inch of the screen is a visual feast for the eyes with exquisitely detailed costume and set designs. With over a dozen carefully selected locations used for filming, it comes as no surprise that the popular series provided the ultimate source of escapism for those who needed a break from reality. With a second season just around the corner, we’ve binged every episode and have fallen in love with the show’s Regencycore style all over again.

What is Regencycore?

Regencycore channels the glamorous style of the era’s elite social classes. Rich in deep colours alongside silky layers of champagne, ivory, and delicate pastels. Lavish patterns, motifs, and fabrics power the intricate details giving each home its own personality. Here are our top tips on how to achieve the Bridgerton look in your home…

Wedgwood Blue

William Yeoward

The signature colour of the Bridgerton family, Wedgwood Blue, is a common thread throughout the series’ sets and costumes. Prevalent in Daphne Bridgerton’s personal style, the soft hue is thought to represent not only her own, but the innocence of young upper-class women in the 1800s. The delicate tone is the perfect shade to create a calming yet elegant atmosphere, whatever your space. Why not transform your bathroom into a relaxing haven by updating your bathroom towels? Or give your bedroom a royal makeover with luxurious bed linen and coordinating pillowcases?

Decadent Lighting

Taking inspiration from all across Europe and beyond, lighting during the regency era was dominated by lavish light fittings. Think wall sconces, opulent lanterns, candelabras, and extravagant French chandeliers all gleaming with the soft glow of candlelight. Designed to impress, Regency lighting focused on the intricate details such as scrolls and shields, Egyptian motifs, wreaths, garlands, and leaves. To achieve this look in your home, hang a chandelier above a stairwell or in a room with high ceilings and light-up your hallway with the subtle glow of wall lights. For a softer look, create the perfect bedroom atmosphere with an oversized table lamp perched on your bedside table.

Regal Patterns

Etro

Commonly associated with the show’s scandalous Featherington family, or Lady Danbury’s iconic gowns, bold patterns are a simple yet impactful way to add a touch of regality to any corner of your home. Swap out your plain sofa cushions for a plethora of contrasting designs that blend seamlessly with your colour palette. Fancy going one step further? Give a room a dramatic transformation with a busy wallpaper or an oversized rug for a magnificent makeover.

Fabulous Florals

Yves Delorme

The most popular pattern of the era, beautifully detailed florals dominated textiles throughout the Regencycore period and is seen throughout the show. Often hand-painted by skilled artists, these florals were often based on still-life drawings bringing nature’s natural beauty inside. When it comes to florals, the busier is the better according to Cottagecore expert Sophie Robinson so why not mix it up? Cover your bed with a vibrant floral throw and adorn your walls with botanical pictures and prints. Put your collection of vases to good use rather than collecting dust and add fresh flowers to every room of the house to not only add colour, but to fill your home with the fresh scents of spring.

Statement Furniture

A room of such grandeur deserves a grand piece of furniture. Turn your bedroom into a charming boudoir fit for a duchess with a large sleigh bed or a carefully carved dressing table. Deep mahoganies create a sultry, sophisticated feel whilst a washed oak finish instantly oozes elegance. Why not turn your living room into a tranquil space for welcoming guests with a solid oak coffee table? Or enhance your favourite reading nook with a bookcase? Alternatively, an extravagant dining table, with half-a-dozen chairs (at least!) is the ultimate way to turn your average dinner party into the event of the season.

Decorous Dinnerware

Such social events, with an exclusive guestlist, require only the finest china and glassware. Crystal glasses with intricately cut details give any cocktail a sophisticated twist, whilst silk napkins allow guests to protect their best threads. Why not invest in a new dinner set, only to be used on special occasions of course, and transform your tabletop into a royal banquet? Or refresh your cutlery collection with a full set of glistening gold or polished silver pieces? Take time for tea and serve guests with a delicate tea set, complete with a matching teapot and accessories.

Finishing Touches

Nothing sets off a room quite like those final finishing touches. The perfect way to show off your personality or family wealth is with beautiful decorative pieces, a vital element to the Regencycore trend. Towering candelabras allow you to bask in the glow of flickering candlelight, whilst designer vases can hold boastful bouquets from eligible suiters. Opt for ornate golden ornaments, or crisp white marble statues. Adorn your walls with intriguing portraiture or excessively large baroque mirrors. Finally, if you’re looking to go all out, a classic crystal chandelier is the ultimate finishing touch to transform your home into a modern-day palace.
