Eco-Conscious Materials

Sika-Design

When you take a seat on a piece of furniture from Sika-Design, it’s not only comfortable and hard-wearing, it’s also made from one of nature’s most sustainable materials, rattan. One of the world’s oldest and largest producers of quality rattan furniture, each piece is made by hand and finished with toxin-free varnishes.

What Makes Rattan Sustainable?

  • It’s the second-fastest growing material in the world and regenerates every 5-7 years.
  • Nearly impossible to wear out, rattan can last for generations.
  • Easy and eco-friendly to work with, the stem only needs to be steamed for 10-15 minutes before it can be easily formed.
  • Bendable, strong, and solid, rattan is perfect for furniture production.
  • As it grows like vines on the trees, rattan actively contributes to rainforest preservation.
  • Its clean air generating nature absorbs CO2 and produces up to 35% more oxygen than other trees.

Traditional Craftsmanship

Surrounded by 80% of the world’s rattan resource, Sika-Design’s factories are based in the heart of Indonesia where wickerwork is a traditional craft that’s passed down through generations. The rattan is harvested by hand using only a few machines in the process before it’s steamed and ready to be hand-woven by skilled artisans.

Greener Transportation

Greener Transportation

In order to support the planet as much as possible, Sika-Design opt for more environmentally-friendly shipping methods. By transporting products by boat directly from the factories to large exporting markets across the globe, Sika-Design are making a conscious effort to reduce their carbon footprint as much as possible.
