Roll up, roll up! The Normann Copenhagen collaboration with Tivoli is here, and it’s magical. The leading Danish design brand has joined forces with the beloved amusement park and pleasure garden to bring sleek, whimsical design to your interior. So this autumn we suggest you embrace your inner thrill seeker and delve into the new collection. We take a closer look at Tivoli by Normann Copenhagen…
Tivoli, the world-famous amusement and pleasure garden with a colourful 175 year history holds a special place in Denmark’s heart. Enchanting its visitors ever since it first opened its doors in 1843, it has always left guests spellbound with its exotic expressivity and has inspired many of the top creative minds throughout the years. Just a few of these icons were Hans Christian Andersen, who was inspired to write his legendary fairy tale, the Nightingale, after visiting and even Walt Disney who went on to build his own parks after numerous trips to Tivoli.
Packed full of mouth-watering eateries, daring thrill rides, eye-catching architecture and outstanding gardens, Normann Copenhagen were determined to create a collection which encapsulates the unique history and atmosphere of Tivoli. Letting you take a little slice of that special Tivoli feeling back home with you, the new range combines the best of Denmark’s cultural heritage and design traditions to create an entirely new brand.
They began their colossal task by visiting the park and extensively researching Tivoli’s archives. This initial stage was followed by months of creative work including sketching, conceptual artwork and 3D prints, before hundreds of prototypes were made, tested, corrected, then made again to form the finished collection. The entire product range emanates playfulness and international style. Normann Copenhagen have played with grids, grooves, harlequins and dots to make a collection that will be instantly recognisable.
Repetition, layers, transparency and movement are all key design concepts explored in the Tivoli collection where shapes, prints and colours all create a common DNA across the products. A mix of materials have also been used from warm woods to shiny metals to reflect all of the different elements which combined make up the soul of the amusement park.
Tivoli’s many styles, colours, patterns and icons have been transformed into recognisable everyday products to bring all the fun of the fair to your interior. Tivoli’s iconic wooden roller coaster which was built in 1914 (and is still in use today) has been reinvented as steel and wood bowls. The peacocks that strut their stuff around the park have also been given the Normann Copenhagen treatment with hooks, mirrors and trays in the shimmering blue/green shades synonymous with the feathered creatures.
The park’s network of twinkling lights have been transformed into candleholders, table lamps and pendant lamps to represent the breathtaking illuminations that greet each visitor to Tivoli. As one of Copenhagen’s key dining locations, from famed Nimbs restaurant, to the cosy ice cream shops and creperies, dining also takes centre stage in the homeware collection with unique tableware, serveware and table decorations to be unearthed. Everything from the classic circus tents, to the park’s courteous porters have been recreated in exceptional home accessories.
The colours of Tivoli that surround the millions of visitors to the park each year have also been captured in the new collection. With a scheme including 27 vivid hues. The base is made of blue, grey, black and green with pops of accent colours like Candyfloss Rose, True Blue and Lollipop Red to bring the pieces to life.
Tivoli by Normann Copenhagen has now burst to life on the Amara site with more pieces arriving in the coming weeks. So get your tickets, buckle up and enjoy the ride.
