Nestled in the heart of one of London’s most revered districts is My Chelsea, a luxury boutique hotel designed by leading interior design studio Design Haus Liberty. Completed in autumn 2017, Design Haus Liberty were in charge of a total refurbishment of the hotel which originally opened in 2002. Part of the My Hotels group, the hotel offers a niche boutique hotel experience amongst the capital’s hustle and bustle. The LuxPad takes a peek at the luxury boutique hotel design…
Each of the My Hotel properties are set in unique locations with bespoke interiors which complement their surroundings. Design Haus Liberty drew on the beautiful gardens and annual flower shows of Chelsea when creating the initial design concept for the My Chelsea hotel. From this they formed an experience where botany and nature sit harmoniously to provide a serene environment for hotel guests and visitors alike.
The lobby of the hotel gives guests the first glimpse of the luxury boutique hotel design with the bespoke light feature instantly drawing the eye against raven black walls. The main communal space is the sprawling conservatory and living room with a monochromatic backdrop, which allows the array of tropical plants to take centre stage. Here guests and visitors can enjoy tasty treats throughout the day along with a specially curated wine selection and cocktail menu by Pontoon Cocktails. Tanya’s Kitchen is also located in the hotel and acts as a raw delicatessen, serving guilt free and healthy desserts, raw juices and salads.
Again lighting is made a focal point in this area with the organic orb shapes offering a stylish juxtaposition to the industrial design of the conservatory itself. Also in contrast to the natural plant life and organically shaped lighting is the carefully sourced furniture which mixes plush velvet chairs offset with worn leather chesterfield banquettes. The centrepiece for the space is the brass hued, distressed bar topped with white stone that sits pride of place on the white oak floor laid at geometric angles.
The bedrooms are serene escapes from the world outside and mirror the rest of the luxury boutique hotel design with inky blue walls contrasted with luscious green foliage. Lighting again has been used as a design statement with bedside lamps in organic dew drop shapes. The bathrooms feature hexagonal tiles and honeycomb mesh bespoke joinery which links to another key aspect of the hotel, the beehives. Perched on the roof of the hotel are eight working beehives which are helping to sustain essential bee life in London, demonstrating that the My Chelsea hotel is as in tune with its sustainability as it is its creativity.
