Jen Stanbrook, creator of top interior blog Love Chic Living, was named as the Midnight Garden trend ambassador when the new A by Amara AW18 collection launched in early August. Since then she has styled the moody new look in her home to show us how to display the new trend at its best. Here are just a few of the images from the revamp and her top tips on how to style the look…
Embrace the Purple
One of the key colours of the Midnight Garden trend with its rich royal heritage feel is of course purple. A colour Jen was apprehensive of at first as it reminds her (and us) of the period in the ‘90s when thanks to Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen and changing rooms, purple was the shade of choice – everywhere. Since then it was banished to the interior archives until this year Pantone brought it back into the limelight when they announced Ultra Violet as the 2018 Colour of the Year. Bringing purple back into the foreground, the Midnight Garden trend puts a sumptuous spin on purple. Combining it with decadent textures and metallics. Altering her perception of the plummy hue, Jen was blown away by how the shade sits perfectly alongside the dark decor of her living room and how it make the existing yellow elements pop.
Play with Textures and Heights
Instead of her usual grouping of 3s and 5s when styling accessories, Jen opted for mixing textures and heights when arranging this trend throughout her living room. The look is filled with eye-catching accessories which are screaming to make their own mark in your home. So to mirror Jen’s experimentation with the heights and textures of the pieces rather than the usual classic groupings, this will let each piece, with its unique patterns and colours, stand out rather than blending in.
Up Your Vase Game
Following on from how to style the accessories above is another key aspect to embracing with the Midnight Garden trend – the humble vase. Gone are the days when vases needed to contain flowers to be displayed in the home. They are now vibrant design statements in their own right. From gleaming petrol hued designs, to gold dripped varieties, the Midnight Garden vases are not to be ignored. So layer them across different surfaces in a room like the mantelpiece and shelving like Jen has to create a glamorous touch – no flowers needed.
Blend it with your Existing Style
The rich, vivid look perfectly epitomises the autumn/winter season and is beautiful as a full room makeover. However one of the main points Jen took away from her living room refresh was that the trend can also be dipped into if you are just looking for a quick update. This is one of the appeals of the A by Amara trends as they can be easily blended with different decor styles and allow you to update your home little by little rather than all in one go.
Jen’s Top Midnight Garden Picks
This is the perfect, on-trend side table. With hairpin legs and a solid agate white top, it’s the ideal match for any contemporary or more traditional decor. My absolute favourite piece of the whole collection.
Who doesn’t love a velvet cushion in the Winter and when it’s in purple with a gold splash it’s even better. Throw a couple of these on your sofa and snuggle up for the evening. Perfect.
Now there are quite a few gold drip vases in the Midnight Garden trend and styled together or individually with other pieces they are a real statement. Lustrous, rich and decadent, these accessories will lift your whole room. Add the perfect Winter bouquet and you’re done.
Everyone needs a gold tray with marble handles on their coffee table. Styled with books, candles and some plants this is the ideal base layer for a stunning vignette. Of course, you could use it to serve drinks too – both practical and stylish!
In my opinion you can never have too many vases! And this small but perfectly formed example will take your home through the AW season and into summer with ease. I love the deep texture married with a soft colour palette; suited to any spot in the home.
