Between finding the perfect gifts to hunting down the best tree, there’s plenty to think about at Christmas time. And as you tick off your list it’s easy to forget one of the most important elements of Christmas day: the table. Christmas dinner isn’t your average meal. It deserves a setting to be proud of.
Once you’ve wrapped the presents, prepared the food & decked the halls, it’s time to focus on your table setting. To make your Christmas preparation as easy and stress-free as possible, we’ve created a step-by-step guide explaining exactly how to set the table for Christmas dinner. Organising a seating plan that’ll keep everyone happy? That’s up to you…
How to Set the Table
Classic yet contemporary, glamorous yet understated. The striking colour pairing of white and gold offers festive flair without contrasting with your existing decor. Whatever colour scheme you choose, keep it simple with a neutral tablecloth and add colour and pattern through your tableware.
Create your neutral ground with a white tablecloth and a sprinkling of festive confetti that matches your colour scheme.
Special occasions are the perfect time to bring out the charger plates. Choose a block colour that will complement your chosen colour scheme.
On top of the charger plate place a subtly patterned dinner plate.
Place the salad plate on top of the dinner plate, this will be used to serve your starters.
On top of your salad plate place a soup bowl (even if you aren’t serving soup, this doubles up as a place to hold decorative baubles).
Place the knife to the right of the plates.
Place the fork to the left and the soup/dessert spoon at the top.
Place your wine glass to the top right of the plates, between the dessert spoon and the knife.
For the final festive flourish place baubles and decorative ornaments in the bowl (but be sure to remove these before you sit down for dinner!)
