Founded in 1932 by carpenter and joiner Ole Kirk Kristiansen, LEGO® is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of toys. Ole Kirk Kristiansen, who had previously made wooden toys, ladders, and ironing boards, chose to devote his entire attention to toy production in 1935. With a desire to create high-quality toys that encourage development, he created LEGO®, an amalgamation of the two Danish words "leg" and "godt", meaning "play well". The family-run business decided to make the switch from wood to plastic after the arrival of the company's first plastic injection-moulding equipment in 1947. It wasn’t until 1949 that the infamous and highly successful LEGO® brick was created. From a small carpenter’s workshop to a global enterprise, their fun and playful creations have been inspiring generations of LEGO-lovers for over 90 years.
