With a range of collections available at Amara, care instructions can vary. To ensure your formal or casual cutlery stays tarnish-free, identify the material and adhere to the relevant care instructions.
Cleaning Stainless Steel Cutlery
Stainless steel is the most popular material choice for cutlery. A variety of compositions are used, most commonly 18/8, which relates to the chronium and nickel contents of the steel respectively. Whilst staining is unlikely, regardless of the composition, this material is not entirely resistant to stains. To keep your cutlery looking its best, there are a few things to remember:
Always rinse your cutlery before placing it in the dishwasher; prolonged contact with certain consumables, e.g. salt, vinegar, eggs, tomato and certain acids, can cause pitting and staining.
A higher chronium content gives stainless steel knife blades the necessary sharper edge; however, this also makes them more susceptible to corrosion. Please take extra care with these implements.
Never leave stainless steel cutlery to soak or in damp conditions as this can cause staining which will require polishing to remove.
To restore the cutlery’s shine and to remove any staining use stainless steel polish and a soft dry cloth.

Cleaning Silver Plated Cutlery
Wonderfully decadent, silver plated cutlery is one of the most luxurious materials on the market. Whilst it is a versatile and relatively easy-care material, there are certain rules which should always be carried out to ensure your silverware stays as luxurious looking as the day you first bought it:
Never let silver plated cutlery come into contact with stainless steel implements as this can cause corroding. Even when placing in the dishwasher, do not mix stainless steel and silver plated cutlery.
Silver plated cutlery is dishwasher safe, however turn off the drying cycle as soon as the wash is finished and dry each piece by hand to avoid any staining. Please note that hand washing silver plated cutlery is always preferable to using a dishwasher.
Remove all food particles as quickly as possible after eating as certain acidic foods can also cause corrosion.
Polish silver plated flatware as needed to maintain its lustrous shine using a flannel cloth and specialised silver polish.

Cleaning Silver Cutlery
Luxurious, lustrous and lavish, silver cutlery is perfect for decadent dinner parties. However, to keep your cutlery in prime condition, please take care to adhere to the following:
Clean as soon as possible after use to avoid harmful chemicals or acids causing damage.
Wash separately from other types of cutlery, especially stainless steel, to avoid corrosion.
Avoid using silver dips, abrasives or silver polishes that are not guaranteed and recommended by the manufacturer.
Take care when polishing; excessive polishing can wear down the finish.
