As part of our ongoing partnership with Women for Women International, we have recently begun sponsoring a woman survivor of war through the charity’s year-long Stronger Women, Stronger Nations programme. A life-changing initiative that’s all about building a connection and offering support through words and friendship, AMARA is proud to help transform the life of a women survivor of war.
Today is the International Day of Charity, so why not discover more about the sponsorship programme and how you can support this amazing charity…
International Day of Charity
A day of global solidarity to eradicate poverty, the International Day of Charity was established with the objective of sensitising and mobilising people around the world to help others through volunteer and philanthropic activities.
Sponsor a Sister
A one-of-a-kind connection with a woman survivor of war, we’ve been matched with Amina from Iraq. Amina has enrolled onto the programme and will be attending classes with her group every week, developing close, trusting friendships with other women like her.
Over twelve months, Amina and others like her will learn about four key topics: her health, rights, business skills and how to form support networks. Amina will also learn a vocational skill that’s proven to earn an income in her local market, such as tailoring, brickmaking or agriculture and business skills such as book-keeping and budgeting. Not only will Amina’s life change, but her family, friends and community will feel the ripple of effect of her training and empowerment.
Soon we’ll be communicating with Amina through writing messages of support and encouragement. Over 38,000 letters were shared between sponsors and their sisters last year alone. A way to form friendships that transcend continents, the women deeply value these connections and treasure these words – for some, these messages can be an emotional lifeline.
