Let her sleep in on Mother’s Day morning. Breakfast in bed is all well and good but chances are you and the little ones will end up giving her a rude awakening with early morning baking, so brunch in bed is the preferred option. The kids will love whipping up something hearty and delicious such as pastries and pancakes. Don’t forget the mimosas or a tropical smoothie for an extra-special touch.

Is there anything more indulgent than a traditional tea party? Invite Mum's nearest and dearest and get her favourite sweet treats, luxury tea blend and a beautiful bouquet of flowers for afternoon tea at home. If tea isn’t her thing, you could host an elegant wine tasting and make your way through a special selection of tipples and nibbles.

Chances are she doesn’t often get time to really unwind, so stock up on salts, bubbles and candles and ensure the bathroom is off-limits for at least an hour. If space allows set up a tablet or laptop so she can get a few episodes in of her favourite series whilst she relaxes. You could also post your very own at-home spa kit to someone special if you’re unable to see them this year. Must-haves include a bath bomb, a good book and a sumptuously scented candle.

If she’s got green thumbs, she’ll love a hand out in the garden. Part of your gift could be bulbs that can be planted together, a new planter or stocking up on new shiny gardening tools. If the weather isn’t on your side or you’re not blessed with outdoor space, a spot of indoor gardening also goes down a treat, how about building a terrarium together or repotting her favourite fern?

Sure, she’s sweet enough already but does anything beat home-baked goods? From iced biscuits and cupcakes to savoury treats, the whole family can get involved in the kitchen and whip-up something truly memorable. However, you’ll need to be in charge of the clean-up operation post bake, it’s Mother’s Day after all.
