Innovative design duo Richard & Antony Joseph are the founders of quirky British kitchenware brand Joseph Joseph. The non-identical twins stumbled upon the idea for their now globally celebrated brand after joining the family glass manufacturing firm.
Specialising in crafting toughened glass for domestic appliances such as cooker hobs, the first spark of an idea came not from this but the firm’s sideline project of crafting glass chopping boards, a project which the twins took on as their own, it was at this point the Joseph Joseph brand was born. Both brothers have design qualifications, Richard’s from Cambridge University and Antony’s from Central St Martins, but it was Richard’s joint business degree which formed their clear individual roles within the company.
With Richard as Managing Director & Antony as Creative Director, they have played to their key strengths giving the brand unrivalled design power equally matched by business acumen. What began with glass chopping boards quickly expanded to more kitchenware items including the product which launched the brand into the public eye - the Chop2Pot. This foldable chopping board lays flat for cutting, but also folds to create a funnel for transferring the contents straight into a pot. Simple yet innovative in design, it was sleek, contemporary and so revolutionary that they began flying off of the shelves, confirming to the brothers that they had found their calling.
Innovative technology
Antony & Richard’s first venture into kitchenware can still be seen as an influencer of their current product range with a huge selection of chopping boards, worktop savers and carving boards available. Joseph Joseph now has a vibrant range of glass worktop savers which was a natural progression from their original product.
An excellent display of the brand’s quirky nature, they feature a host of designs from gastronomy maps, retro records and geometric prints. The Chop2Pot remains as popular today as it was when first introduced, and is now available in various sizes to accommodate any pot, with multiple colourways to match your kitchen’s decor.
