Kosta Boda is one of the world’s leading brands of stunning glassware and art glass. Founded in the Swedish province of Småland in 1742, it was originally named Kosta; a name created from the surnames of the founders, Generals Koskull and Staël von Holstein. Fine glassware was made during the first 150 years of the company’s existence and comprised products such as window panes, bottles and drinkware.
Kosta exhibited its products at the General Art and Industrial Exposition of Stockholm in 1987 but it was criticized because it resembled items made in other parts of Europe. Following the exhibition, the company decided to employ its own designers and this remains the foundation of the way in which the company continually develops its product range.
Kosta Boda was formed through a merger of the glassworks in the communities of Kosta, Boda and Åfors. Vibrant and innovative, Kosta Boda’s designers are some of the most renowned in both Sweden and the rest of the world. Always stretching the limits of what is possible, they constantly explore the possibilities of glass to create unique products that will continue to delight future generations.
