How to Create a Relaxing Reading Nook
During the hectic working week there’s nothing better than curling up with a good book. And with Book Lover’s Day coming up on the 9th August (the unofficial holiday that encourages people to pick up a book and spend the day reading), we thought we’d show you how you can easily create your own relaxing reading nook in your home. Settle down, this is a real page turner…
Pick Somewhere with Plenty of Natural Light
Natural light is a book worm’s best friend, so make sure your reading nook has plenty of it. Some of our favorite places for getting cozy is on a bay window ledge, in an orangery or conservatory, or pulling our favorite armchair underneath a skylight. You won’t strain your eyes thanks to the natural light, and when it starts to rain you’ll have the soft pitter patter of raindrops to set the scene for whichever novel you’re diving into.
Introduce Houseplants
When it comes to health benefits, houseplants pack a punch. They improve air quality and increase oxygen levels, release water vapour into the air (great for dry skin) and altogether promote a sense of wellbeing by reminding us of the great outdoors. They’re one of the simplest ways to reconnect with nature, so surround your reading nook with houseplants & you’ll be encouraged to stop, take a deep breath and relax.
Don’t Forget Pillows & Candlelight
No space for an armchair? No problem. Throw down some of your cosiest cushions, grab your softest blanket and light a candle or two. You can create a relaxing reading nook in virtually any space with these simple home essentials.
Take it Outside
Is there anything better than a clear night’s sky and the crackle of a fire? Go al fresco with your latest read by creating a reading nook in your outside space. All you need is a thick blanket, woollen socks and somewhere soft to sit. A glass of your favourite red is optional, but encouraged.
Tea & Touchable Textures
Put the kettle on, it’s time to get cosy. A hot pot of tea and a great novel is a match made in heaven, and when you throw soft textures into the mix? Well it doesn’t get any better than this. Textural elements are key here. Think plush velvet cushions, mohair throws and an oversized cable knit cardigan. Layer textures on textures to make it as inviting as possible, and snuggle down with your favourite mug. You won’t be going anywhere for a while.
