One thing appears to shine through above all else on our blog – our obsession with food! Whether it be cakes for office birthdays, left over party food or goodies brought back from the latest supermarket run, there is always some tasty treat lying around to delve into. This year we have decided to put our love of food to the test for an extremely good cause by hosting the first of what we are sure will turn into an annual event – The Great Amara Charity Bake Off!
Taking inspiration from the Great British Bake Off running at the same time, there will be eight weeks of heats where three staff members will demonstrate their culinary abilities to be judged by the rest of the team, with one person per week going through to the semi-final. The eight semi-finalists will be joined by a wild card (the highest scoring contestant not to win their heat), over the next two weeks this group will be whittled down to just two bakers. Our baking finalists will go head to head on the eagerly awaited Christmas jumper day in December, the winner will then be crowned Amara’s top baker for the year ahead and will of course win a fabulous prize.
Whilst we do love baking and could not be more excited about the prospect of nearly three months of office treats, we cannot forget the reason we are holding this wonderful competition in the first place. All proceeds of this contest will go straight to the Cystic Fibrosis trust which was suggested by our Web Marketing Assistant Kristy, here is what she had to say about the charity…
‘The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is a charity that is very close to my heart. At the beginning of the summer we were all shocked by the passing of my school friend Kristian Long, 19 from Maldon, who suffered from the condition his whole life. Since his passing, everyone has tried to fundraise for the charity as much as possible and when Amara chose to support The Cystic Fibrosis Trust this year I was extremely happy. I’m really looking forward to the bake off and hope as the choice of charity is so personal to me we can raise as much money as possible to make Kristian and his family proud!’
Each baked slice, portion or sliver will be sold for £1 to all Amara staff, visitors and probably anyone that walks past the office for us to try and fundraise as much as physically possible for this fantastic cause. The Bake Off will begin on October 2nd with weekly updates & news featured on the blog throughout the competition.
