Gingerlily are the leading specialists in top quality silk bedding and have evolved into an international brand. Their products are crafted from the finest A-grade long fibre mulberry silk, making their products naturally hypo-allergenic, beautifully soft and fantastically stylish. Contrary to popular belief, they also require much less cleaning than ordinary bed linen. This is due to the fact that you do not perspire when sleeping in silk as it adjusts so readily to body temperature and it also doesn’t play host to dust mites. However, in order to prolong their luxurious feel, steps should be taken to preserve the quality of all Gingerlily products. It is always best to get silk items professionally laundered, but with the right precautions and steps, it’s entirely possible for you easily care for many of your products at home- though you should never bleach or shampoo silk garments, as it will destroy the fibres/damage the silk and leave residue.
Gingerlily provide a wide range of silk bed linen, including fitted sheets, pillowcases, throws, blankets, cushion covers and duvet covers. Blankets and throws should always be professionally dry cleaned, but other bed linen can be hand washed in cool water or machine washed at 30 °C.
Use a protective bag such as a cotton pillowcase if you are machine washing your bed linen. This prevents the seams becoming damaged due to the pulling action of the machine. Use a gentle detergent and when possible, hang the linen on the washing line to dry rather than machine drying. If this is unavoidable, make sure the tumble dryer is on a cool setting. Linen can also be rolled up in a towel to help dry it out, but ensure that you do not wring or twist it.
Gingerlily also provide luxury silk bedding, including silk-filled duvets, mattress toppers, bedspreads, cushions and pillows. Always use a duvet cover with your duvet, as it’s more hygienic, protects it from wear and tear and many styles & designs are available to choose from. If properly covered, Gingerlily duvets, toppers, bedspreads, cushions& pillows should almost never require cleaning. Instead, you should just air them two to three times a year. Simply leave them outside for a few hours out of direct sunlight in order to allow them to breathe and rejuvenate the fibres that may become compacted during use.
In the event of a spillage or stain, most Gingerlily products should be spot cleaned only with a warm damp cloth and a light detergent. For larger stains, it is best to take duvets, mattress toppers and pillows to a professional cleaner as domestic washing machines may damage the silk fibres. For bedspreads and eiderdowns, his should be the first port of call- they should be dry-cleaned only, as their delicate nature means that ordinary washing machines and even spot cleaning can ruin them.
When not in use, duvets and mattress toppers should be stored out of sunlight in a cool dry place.
To keep your Gingerlily silk nightwear/loungewear in top condition, follow the same washing guidelines for the bed linen. To remove minor wrinkles, simply hang up your garments overnight. For more stubborn wrinkles, hang up the garments in the bathroom during a hot shower, as the humidity will remove wrinkles for you.
Silk is ideal for allergy sufferers as its soothing properties have been recognised to help prevent and aid the recovery of skin irritations, poor circulation, arthritis, asthma and night sweats. It also contains amino acids in common with our hair and skin, helping to retain its shine and to keep facial lines at bay. The perfect luxury material for bedding, silk is wonderfully luxurious and with the right care, will last for many years to come.
