Perfect Home Interview: Helen Powell
As a freelance writer, editor and blogger, Helen lives in Warwickshire with her husband Graham and their whippet Albert. In 2009 she created her blog ‘Design Hunter‘. What began as a personal place for Helen to share design ideas and inspirations, it has evolved into a popular online destination with a growing team of regular contributors. Featuring beautiful interiors, interesting people, emerging trends and enduringly good design, theres no wonder why this blog has gone on to win a number of awards. We chat to Helen about how she would envisage her perfect home…
If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
I’ve always dreamt of owning a property on the Isle of Skye. The landscape is just phenomenally beautiful and it would be a perfect location in which to design and build my own home – something I would love to do.
Name one homeware accessory that you can’t live without?
A well designed teapot. Lazy weekend breakfasts are an important ritual in our house and tea is always served from a pot.
If you could decorate your home in any trend, what would it be?
I admire elegantly minimal interiors and timeless style that endures beyond trends. I’m drawn to objects and pieces of furniture that are simple and honest in their design and use of materials.
To you, what makes a home perfect?
The loved ones you share it with, good food, a comfortable sofa… and a dog!
Tell us about the photo of your dream house
It’s hard to choose just one, but this image of architect Joseph Dirand’s Paris apartment is definitely among my current favourites.
