Vulcani di Luce / Volcanoes of Light Book
Here, I correct mistakes on the Second Edition of the Vulcani di Luce / Volcanoes of Light book being currently sold and distributed from the Stromboli Online web site. While the publisher, Rebus Editions, has kindly agreed to insert the corrections into the future Third Edition and include Errata in the present Second Edition, the photographer Marco Fulle and Strombli Online have declined to make such corrections, hence the necessity of this web page.
I wish to inform the viewer that the Second Edition of the Volcanoes of Light book lists me as the writer of the English text of the book, however I did not write the text on the following pages: 42, 44, 50, 78, 80, 82.
In the Second Edition, the publishing conditions were even more unusual than for the First Edition. I was never offered payment and a contract to perform work on the Second Edition. I was not even aware that the book went into production until I saw the Second Edition book in a Sicily bookstore in August 2006, with my name attached to pages that I did not write. Many emails to the photographer in the Fall 2006 and one formal request to the publisher in January 2007 to make the correction yielded the final result that: the publisher will make the Errata for the Second Edition books that the publisher still holds and then corrections will be inserted in the Third Edition. However, Marco Fulle has not agreed to make changes and continues to sell his copies of the Second Edition as before from the web site, with no listed corrections and with no Errata inserted.
Given these unusual and unprofessional conditions, I suggest that if you are interested in a photography book on the Italian volcanoes, to wait until the Third Edition is in print in 2008 or 2009. If you are interested in volcano photographs now, however, may I suggest work by Thomas Reichart or Tom Pfeiffer? Thank you for your consideration.
