In 1952 Robert Welch trained & specialised exclusively in stainless steel production design. He established a company in his name, Robert Welch, in the early 60's at an 18th century silk mill at Chipping Camden in the Cotswold hills. Robert Welch Designs is still a family run business designing & manufacturing at the same location, whose ethos is to design and produce unique cutlery ranges that will stand the test of time and customers will enjoy using day after day. Robert Welch has for over fifty years remained synonoymous with classic modern cutlery. As Britian's leading industrial designers of the 20th Century, Robert Welch was appointed Royal Designer to Industry with important commissions in the Victoria & Albert Museum, the British Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Canterbury Cathedral and No.10 Downing Street. The Robert Welch range of products is remarkably extensive. Unlike other design companies, none of the products are bought in or created by outside designers. Every item is created by the Robert Welch Design Team with rigorous questioning about its function, manufacture, durability and ease of use.
