Since leaving school I have started a number of businesses and as with all things in life one or two endeavours were not so fruitful, whilst others such as my-wardrobe.com grew into successful companies. I had always been keen to move into the homeware industry and launch a luxury online home accessory business, knowing it was the next big growth area after fashion. After first meeting Sam & Andrew Hood, I was inspired by their honesty and integrity. Upon getting to know the rest of the team, I could see these were core values they all shared, which drove me to take on the Chairman role at Amara in 2011.
Creating a successful online business is a combination of so many things that all need to be executed perfectly. Customer service has to be impeccable at all times to encourage people to return, whilst the editorial and overall shopping experience should be inspirational and seamless. At Amara we pride ourselves in the depth and breadth of our product range, which sees new lines and brands constantly being added, to offer our customers something different and to remain ahead of the competition. Another main element of a successful business is of course having a great team of committed people behind the scenes, who are passionate about what they do and how they do it, which makes Amara an inspirational place to work. For me, my favourite Amara moment is seeing customers come back time and time again, which confirms to me that we are doing it right!
